Portneuf river is another great section to add on the list, although it is unknown to many paddlers around the region. Quebec Connection did the first descent in 2016, since then, very few paddlers had the chance of going down this beautiful section. It wasn’t until 2019 that the potential of this section was final understood, with the last piece of it being paddle.

The Portneuf as a unique California style added to the classical Quebec creeks. The section starts with a small then minutes hikes on a trail that brings you to a small 2km of flat water. The Californian style doesn’t hit you till the first few rapids, which by that meaning are slides and drops carved in a granite bedrock. There are only about 4 rapids before the crux of this section. You will then be able to scout or portage on river left, the canyon being the crux of this section starts with a 50ft waterfall that was first D by André Ouellet. The waterfall is very technical and sketchy, but you can easily walk around it. You will then enter the canyon which is composed of 4 main drops. The drops are hard to scouts, so it would be recommended to follow someone down. The drops are by far the best part of the river, some 5 to 15 ft pool drops inside a deep & tight quebexicain canyon.

The canyon is followed by a section of rapid formed by rock slides. This being said, there are no big siphons to be alarmed at. The rapids are mostly rock gardens that leave a trail of nice boofs. The recommendation is to follow the flow.

This river ends with a river wide boat breaker slide. This rapid as been done, but the walk will most likely give you a better ending.
